Chicken with beer, stove version, is a classic recipe at home that I cook often. So it was about time to share the slow cooker version of this delicious recipe.
What kind of beer can I use?
You can use any kind of beer, from lager to your favourite IPA, even 0.0 beers. Take into account that the sauce will have a pretty strong beer taste, so if you are not a big fan of IPA style beers, go for a soft lager or wine.

Slow cooker chicken with beer

1 kg chicken thighs
2 tablespoon flour or 1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 large onion
4 garlic cloves
3 tablespoons of olive oil
1 glass of beer or white wine, 220 ml
Ground black pepper
1 bay leaf
Salt
Directions
- Finely chop the onion and garlic cloves. Set aside.
- Cut the chicken into bite size pieces. Place in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
- Add the cornstarch or flour and mix the chicken with your hands to coat the chicken evenly.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large pan and sear the chicken in batches.
- Transfer to the slow cooker.
- Add 2 tablespoons of oil to the same pan sauté garlic and onion for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the beer and cook for 5 minutes over high heat.
- Transfer to the slow cooker.
- Add bay leaf, salt and pepper.
- Cover with the lid and cook on LOW for 4 hours or HIGH for 2 hours and 30 minutes.
- Serve with some roasted potatoes or vegetables.
